Vacumed - Aim and capabilities
An "external heart" for the lower half of the bod An external heart for the lower bodyThe aim is to provide an effective treatment for arterial, venous and lymphatic leg disorders and vascular diseases.
In contrast to the existing LBNPD of space medicine, the negative pressure in the VACUMED(r) device is pulsed in adjustable intervals. Thus, it acts like a pump or to be more precise: as an "external heart" for the lower half of the body.
Intermittent waves of negative pressure and normal atmospheric pressure create a readily measurable capillary dilation and capillarisation, as they draw fresh blood full of oxygen and nutrients into the lower extremities.
Even tissue affected by deficient perfusion or ischaemia is revitalised through these waves.
Vacuum puts pressure on oedema
Following phases of negative pressure, venous blood and lymph are moved towards the trunk during phases of normal pressure. Thus the venous and lymphatic return is assisted.
ncreased microperfusion with simultaneous enhancement of lymphatic drainage and removal of waste products usually eliminated with lymph results in an additional natural purification of the interstitial tissue and consequently to a desirable shift of the interstitial pH value towards more alkaline conditions. This is beneficial for collagen synthesis and the density of the skin's connective tissue. This aspect explains why the novel intermittent negative pressure wave therapy is also of interest for a range of complementary indications, e.g. as a measure to enhance the physiological muscular pump in cases of varicosis or so-called cellulite.
